Velocity Car Wash at Super U in Tamarin
CONTEXT :
The Velocity Car Wash in Tamarin is a high-quality car wash offering interior and exterior cleaning for all types of vehicles.
I’ve been a regular customer since it opened. The exterior wash costs 500 Rs, and the interior wash is only 300 Rs, totaling 800 Rs. I consistently pay 1000 Rs, leaving a 200 Rs tip for the team. Every time.
The owner of the car wash is a South African, very friendly, clearly well-educated, and extremely courteous. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the manager and some of his employees.
THE FACTS :
Sunday, August 24, 2025
My Mauritian partner and I arrive at the Velocity Auto Wash at Tamarin’s Super U just before 11:00 AM to have the interior of our car cleaned. The exterior, pristine due to a recent paint job, didn’t need any washing. At the interior cleaning area, a friendly employee explains that, per the establishment’s policy, an exterior wash is mandatory to access the interior cleaning service.
I willingly comply with this rule and place the car in the queue, with four vehicles ahead of us. I hand the keys to the manager, emphasizing again that we want the interior cleaned. We then head off to do some shopping while the car is being processed.
We return around 12:30 PM, just as the car exits the exterior wash tunnel. An employee hands me the keys, but I remind him that we had agreed on an interior cleaning as well. He seems surprised, saying he wasn’t informed. I ask him to relay to the manager that we followed their procedure by getting the exterior wash solely to qualify for the interior service, as we were told.

The employee returns and informs me that the manager refuses to do the interior cleaning.
Perplexed, I head to the side entrance of the car wash to speak directly with the manager, to whom I had given the keys while specifying my request. Right away, he adopts an arrogant attitude, pointing to the exit and raising his voice, telling me I have no business being inside the car wash. I try to explain that I came all the way from Albion specifically to have the car’s interior cleaned, but he dismissively says there’s no time left, as the team stops working in half an hour.
I point out that 30 minutes should be enough, but he gets irritated and shuts down any discussion. The situation escalates, and I raise my voice too, threatening to call his boss to report the issue. He reacts by shouting, “I’M THE BOSS as far as you’re concerned!” and that he alone decides whether to serve a client.
Then, practically foaming at the mouth, he yells like a man possessed, “I’M THE BOSS HERE, I’M THE BOSS HERE!” The tension rises further, and I threaten not to pay for the exterior wash, which I hadn’t initially requested. Another employee gets worked up, creating unnecessary tension over my insistence on a promised service.
Disappointed, I end up paying to stay in the right and out of respect for the South African owner, known for his professionalism. But this experience left a bitter taste. It’s impossible for me to remain a customer at Velocity Auto Wash in Tamarin.
